Music is life, right?
Music shapes us in ways that the average population can’t comprehend. But who shapes music?
I consider myself an artist, an entrepreneur, and a character. I can’t say I grew up knowing how to produce; nor did I pay an institution to teach me how to compose a sheet of music. What I can say is this…
I was fortunate enough to have a phenomenal leader in music early in my life. His name was Mr. O.
(Don’t ask me what his whole last name was, because I was young and “Mr. O” was pretty darn easy to remember.)
He taught me how to read sheets of music, how to play a flute, how to inspect a rhythm, and how to practice something over and over until it was nearly perfect. If a note sounded odd, he would call it out. If drummers were offbeat, he would have the band start over. A stern professor, yes! Mr. O not only had the ability to not only teach, however; he was also a phenomenal leader with the ability to share his wisdom with the youngest and oldest of minds. I learned a lot from him. I learned a lot about music. I learned a lot about perseverance.
There were times I thought that I couldn’t move my fingers fast enough to hit all of the notes. There were times where I thought I lacked the breath to play out a whole tune. There were times where I thought … man, this is hopeless; he was always there to push you regardless of your notions.
I think about that today, and wonder how music shaped my life. I ponder about how I can influence the lives of others by creating a melody and adding a kick drum. I wonder how I can adjust the filters so that frequencies can expose the clear images of a live performance. I write with the hope that I can touch the soul of an individual, who may be facing adversity, with some fun and laughter. I look forward to leading our world into harmony through my music.
Is Music Life?
Not for everyone... I chose to excel in the secure route of gaining my degrees and attaining my dream career. It worked out…sort of. In the process, I pushed music to the background. I let it sit like a project without an end. I put my creativity to sleep.
There’s nothing wrong with making sure you create a cushion for yourself and your future family. Believe it when I tell you, it is imperative that you do so (especially if you come from my previous financial status). However, never lose your knack for music. Always visit your creative ability! No matter what stage in my life, music had a strong presence in every experience I can remember. Be creative and embrace what it is to be you. One day, you’ll be ready to shine harder than the sun, as you give life to people all over the world by emitting the frequencies that house a plethora of vitamins.
In the end, music for the composer/producer/artist/human is…
